Rice and Roots 2017-South East Asia Culinary Promotion in UBC

Students of ASEAN countries in University of British Columbia from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore with the support of Centre of Southeast Asian Research (CSEAR) had joined hands to hold South East Asia Culinary Promotion,  Of Rice and Roots 2017, February 3rd, 2017 at AMS Nest.

Director CSEAR, Prof. Rick Barichello, in his opening remarks, extended appreciation to the sixth students associations that made fine preparation of the event. Prof. Barichello also welcomed and appreciated the attendance from members of ASEAN Consulates General in Vancouver (ACGV) in the event. The event was made official by rice pouring ceremony by Prof. Barichello and the representative members of ACGV namely Consul General of Thailand, Deputy Consul General of the Philippines and Consul of Indonesian Consulate.  

Around 150 international and local students came to taste the delicacy of South East Asian Culinary such as fried rice, fried noodle from Indonesia, lemongrass and vegetable springroll from Vietnam, curry chicken rice from Malaysia, fried kwetiau from Singapore and Padthai from Thailand.  

Of Rice and Roots 2017 was the annual event that had been held fourth times consecutively since 2014. The initial purpose of the event was to serve as constant efforts   to bring the students familiarized with ASEAN through the delight culinary of ASEAN member countries.
