Fruitful Collaboration between Indonesian Consulate in Vancouver and Indonesian Students of SFU
As the biggest city in British Columbia and the third biggest city in Canada, Vancouver is also known as the city with the heaviest rainfall throughout the year. The statistics said the rainfall could reach as much as 1,199 (47.2 inches) annually, in particular in winter. It came to no surprise that in January 2018, the rainfall reached its peak. Despite the heavy rain and wind engulfed the region, the youths remained enthusiast to joined Simon Fraser University Indonesia Association (SFUIA) Olympic 2018 held at East Gym on January 21, 2018. As many as 150 youths Indonesian and Canadians showed great spirit to participate in 4 competitions such as futsal, basketball, volleyball and dodge ball.
SFUIA Olympic 2018 was an annual event hosted by Simon Fraser Simon University Indonesia Association (SFUIA). The event which was held consecutively for 8 times intially aimed to foster solidarity and among Indonesia youths and students unity. Indonesian Consulate in Vancouver acted as co-organizer in line with its mission to cultivate the Indonesian diaspora and at the same time to provide consular services. The Consulate also take the opportunity to involve Indofood Canada to promote instant noodle product.
Consul for Socia Cultural and Information Affairs, on behalf of Acting Consul General, conveyed his appreciation and welcomed the collaboration to host Student Olympic 2018. Consul also addressed the participants to take advantage of the Consulate’s consular service during the event.
SFUIA students praised the beneficial collaboration with the Consulate and the event proved to be successful and progressed well filled with the spirit of friendship and hospitality.
